Cornwall Music Education Hub Ensembles

The Cornwall Music Education Hub recognises how valuable ensemble experience can be in the development of musical skills and supports a network of ensembles and choirs across the county to provide a rich and varied menu of musical opportunities for young people.

CMEH Percussion Playing Day - 24th June 2018 - Truro High School

A free opportunity for young percussionists to try out orchestral percussion in a one day workshop led by experienced percussion coaches and Patrick Bailey.  To register for this event, please complete and return the registration form to the Hub office - CMEH@cornwall.gov.uk - by 19th June 2018

Hub County Ensembles

In order to provide progression opportunities for young musicians, the Hub manages a number of ensembles at a county level:

Membership

Membership of the county ensembles is through an audition process.  Please note that a membership fee applies to all of these ensembles.

The 2018 auditions for CYO and CYWO will be held on 15th September at Truro High School for Girls.  Anyone interested in joining should complete and submit an audition application form:

Subsidised Membership Fees

The Hub offers a 50% subsidy on the annual membership fee for students who meet one of the following criteria:

  • Currently eligible for Free School Meals (eligibility will be checked against the council central register)
  • Child of currently serving personnel of British Armed Forces (please provide proof will completed membership form)
  • Child in care

Progression & Ensembles Leads

The Hub is able to provide support to youth and school ensembles in the form of advice and support from our Progression and Ensemble Leads:

Janet Elston - Strategic Lead, County Ensembles & North Cornwall

Janet is employed by the Cornwall Music Service Trust but commissioned by the Hub to lead on its Progression and Ensemble Strategy as well as being the Director of the Hub's Cornwall Youth Wind Orchestra.  Janet is able to visit schools to support them in setting up their own ensemble opportunities or to discuss musical progression in their schools.

Patrick Bailey - Central and West Cornwall

Patrick is an experienced conductor, multi-instrumentalist and composer who has been commissioned by the Hub to provide support school and regional ensembles.

Other CMEH supported ensembles

In addition to its county level ensembles, the CMEH supports a network of ensembles across the county through its annual Hub Ensemble grant programme.  These ensembles are managed, administered and delivered by other organisations and receive a grant from the CMEH to support them.

All Hub funded/supported ensembles are invited to attend termly Ensemble network meetings which have been set up to encourage communication and sharing between ensembles.
