Founded in 2016, East Cornwall Youth String Orchestra made their inaugural performance in July at the Dante Summer Festival in Launceston Town Hall. Their maiden programme combined Scottish and Romantic music, including John Maxwell Geddes work 'Soundposts' performed in the presence of the composer, who reported 'what a splendid concert! I am so impressed by what you got out of these young players.' Also in the programme was an arrangement of Peter Maxwell Davis' 'Farewell to Stromness' and the 'Andante' from Mendelssohn's String Symphony in C minor. The players were delighted to be able to work alongside the renowned Dante Quartet for the performance.
In February 2017, ECYSO will join together with its sister ensembles Penzance Youth String Orchestra, Penzance Junior Strings, Truro Youth String Orchestra, and Truro College String Ensemble to perform 'Soundposts' at the Music for Youth Regional Festival in Truro.
